About Sorisomun

EN

Sorisomun is an independent art marketplace and community based in the Netherlands.

We started Sorisomun because a lot of good work exists outside galleries, established networks, and the places where people usually expect to find art.

Students, recent graduates, emerging artists, and independent artists are constantly making work, but showing it to new people — and especially selling it — can still be unnecessarily difficult.

At the same time, discovering art online often means choosing between highly curated spaces and large marketplaces where the person behind the work can disappear.

Sorisomun sits somewhere in between.

We want artists to have a place where they can show their work in their own way, build a space around their practice, and sell directly to people who are interested in what they make.

We also want discovering art to feel less distant. You should be able to come across a work you like, see who made it, understand a little more about them, and decide for yourself what matters to you.

What matters to us

Independence

Artists do not need to fit a particular style, school, or career path to belong here. Sorisomun is for people building their practice in different ways and at different stages.

The person behind the work

An artwork is more than an image in a product grid. Profiles, studio material, background, writing, and Somun posts can give more context to the work when an artist wants to share it.

Original work

We care about work that comes from individual artists and their own practice. Sorisomun is not intended to become a marketplace of anonymous, mass-produced products.

Access

Finding and buying original art should not require knowing the right gallery, vocabulary, or people. The platform should make sense whether you already collect art or are buying your first work.

Clarity

Prices, fees, seller information, payments, shipping, and order processes should be clear. We prefer plain information over unnecessary complexity.

Community

Selling work is only one part of being an artist. Somun exists for questions, discussions, opportunities, events, advice, and other things people working in and around art want to share.

Where we are going

Sorisomun is still growing.

We do not want growth to mean becoming more anonymous or filling the platform with as much content as possible. We would rather keep building a place where individual artists remain visible and where the work does not become detached from the people who made it.

Give independent artists more room, and make it easier for people to find them.
